CBI Saga: SC Adjourns Matter To 29 November, Expresses Deep Displeasure Over Lack Of Confidentiality In Matter

After the Supreme Court (SC) resumed its hearing on the CBI issue on Tuesday (20 November), Chief Justice Of India Ranjan Gogoi gave a copy of the CVC report to senior lawyer Fali S Nariman, who is representing the ousted chief Alok Verma. On the copy, the lines read “Read it yourself and tell us if you want more time to reply”, News 18 reported.
The CJI also expressed his displeasure at an article published on a website which carried extracts of the ousted CBI chief’s response, Live Law reported. While addressing Nariman, the CJI commented that the report was only meant for him and was not intended to be used in the capacity of Verma’s counsel.
Nariman in defence clarified that there was no violation of the Supreme Court order and the news article in question pertained to Verma’s responses to the CVC and not his confidential reply to the Supreme Court.
Thus, upset over the fact that there is a dearth of confidentiality in the reply given by Alok Verma to the CVC, the apex court adjourned the hearing to 29 November. News 18 quoted the Supreme Court as saying, “Our efforts was to make sure individual officers are protected and so we asked for confidentiality. But we don't think any of you deserves a hearing.”
The Supreme Court has been hearing the case of Alok Verma who has challenged the government’s on its decision to divest him from all CBI related duties.
On Monday (19 November), Alok Verma had submitted his response to the findings of the CVC in a report that sought to look into the allegations of corruptions against him.
