CBI Vs CBI: Supreme Court Directs Central Vigilance Commission To Finish Probe Within Ten Days

The Supreme Court (SC) has directed Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to finish the probe in the ongoing CBI controversy within the next ten days. The court also appointed former SC judge, A K Pattnaik to supervise the probe. Times of India has reported.
All the decisions taken by the interim CBI director Nageshwar Rao have to be produced in the court in sealed covers, SC directed Central Government. It further instructed interim director not to take any decisions in matters of policy and only do the routine functions.
SC declined the plea of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta who said that the probe cannot possibly be done within two weeks.
Earlier in the day, SC had informed former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi that his plea will be heard later, not the same day since the petition is not listed. Rohatgi, who served as Attorney General from 2014 to 2017, is appearing on behalf of CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana.
Meanwhile, Congress party has been carrying out protests against the removal of Alok Verma from the post of CBI Director.
CJI Gogoi said that the court will see what kind of interim order can be passed in this matter, referring to the plea filed by Alok Verma against Centre’s leave order.
