CBSE Instructed By SC To Look Into Extending EWS Benefits To CTET Qualifying Exam

On Thursday (16 May), the Supreme Court directed the Centre and CBSE to look into a petition which seeks 10 per cent reservation under the economically weaker section (EWS) quota, for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2019 exam, reports The Tribune.
A notice has also been issued to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for the same.
The vacation bench comprising of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Indira Banerjee has instructed CBSE, NCTE and the Centre to respond by 1 July.
The petitioners are asking from the government to extend the benefits of ‘The Constitution (103rd amendment) Act 2019' to the CTET qualifying examination which had come into effect on 16 January.
As per the act, the economically weaker sections of the society from the general category got at least a 10 per cent quota.
“If we will get this relaxation, we will qualify in the examination. The amendment is aimed for upliftment of the economically weaker section of society,” the petition stated.
