Ceasefire Violated: Two BSF Personnel Killed In Unprovoked Pakistani Shelling Along The Border

Just days after India and Pakistan agreed to implement the ceasefire pact of 2003, Pakistani troops targeted Indian posts and villages along the International Border (IB), killing two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, said a report in the Times of India.
Thirteen civilians and a policeman were injured when Pakistani Rangers resorted to heavy mortar shelling in the Pargwal sector in Akhnoor area of Jammu. At least 10 BSF posts and 35 villages were targeted by the Pakistani forces.
The unprovoked firing came five days after India and Pakistan armies agreed to maintain the 2003 ceasefire agreement in letter and spirit. Director Generals of Military Operations of both countries had agreed to undertake measures to improve the situation along the borders, to exercise restraint in case of any issue and to resolve the matter through hotline and flag meetings.
BSF Jammu frontier inspector general Ram Awtar slammed Pakistan for dishonouring the ceasefire yet again, adding that the BSF has retaliated strongly to the latest round of unprovoked shelling.
A total of 46 people, including 21 security personnel, have been killed in cross-border firing and mortar shelling this year.
