Centre Unlikely To Impose A National Lockdown; Advises States And UTs To Go For Customised Lockdowns: Report

The Government is unlikely to impose a national lockdown to contain the surging wave of fresh COVID-19 cases in the country, reports Times of India.
The Government is said to have advised the States and the Union Territories (UTs) to take stringent measures and implement "customised lockdowns" to break the chain of transmission and to slow the spread.
Union Ministry of Health has also suggested a strict lockdown in about 150 districts that have a high positivity rate of higher than 15 per cent.
The Centre is said to have given the States a free hand to decide the parameters of restrictions, while also stressing the urgent need to ramp up the health infrastructure by roping in small nursing homes and hospitals to boost the capacity. It has also suggested that Covid Care Centres be opened in hotels, stadiums et cetera.
