‘Chargegate’: iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max Users Gall Over As New Models Fail To Charge

Cupertino based tech giant Apple Inc. came under flak when the users of its new models of iPhone Xs and Xs Max reported failing to top-up their batteries when they are plugged in reports Telegraph.

Owners of the recently-unveiled iPhone XS and XS Max, which costs up to £1,449 for the most expensive model, said that their phones failed to charge when the screen was turned off.

Apple Inc. has not yet commented on the issue which has been dubbed “Chargegate”.

Multiple owners took the issue to social media, where one of them wrote on Twitter saying the problem had caused her “a week of frustration”. “First and last time I buy the latest and greatest iPhone,” another wrote.

The new phones would only get charged while their screens are turned on, so an owner plugging in the handset overnight without waking the phone could be left with a dead battery in the morning.

The reason for the downfall is unclear and no data as to the number of units affected. However, failures to charge have been reported by users across social media as well as Apple’s website.

“I’ve noticed several times plugging the phone in, and no charge comes up,” one customer wrote. Several owners reported that they had to repeatedly insert the power cable for their phones to start charging.

The fault is the latest alleged problem to hit Apple’s new iPhones. Some users had complained that their phones have poor Wi-Fi reception compared to previous models, and others had issues with the post-processing of the images taken on the new iPhones, said they excessively smoothened the photos.
