Around 50,000 students in Uttar Pradesh will sing Vande Mataram together from 10 am on 3 February to 12 noon on 4 February to mark the Chauri Chaura centenary celebrations, Hindustan Times reports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in the centenary celebrations at Chauri Chaura through video conferencing on Thursday.

Vinay Kumar Pandey, director of secondary education in Uttar Pradesh revealed that this event will be inducted in the Guinness Book of World Records.

It will surpass the previous gathering of 20,000 people that had sung the national song together. Accordingly, thousands of students are recording their recitation of the first stanza of Vande Mataram whilst standing in a salute pose.

They will send these clips to their respective schools and the videos will be uploaded on a link provided by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The principals of secondary schools in the state have been asked to ensure that the selected students flawlessly recite the Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay-composed poem with correct pronunciation.

The Chauri Chaura incident that took place on 4 February 1922 included a set of non-cooperation movement protestors setting fire to a police station in the town near Gorakhpur amidst clashes with the British Raj police force.
