Chhattisgarh On The ‘Rail-Way’: Foundation Stone Laid For Two Major Projects Worth Rs 6,500 Crore

Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh laid the foundation stone for two important railway projects on Saturday (6 October), in the state. The new railway line that connects Katghora-Mungeli-Kawardha-Dongargarh will help speed up the growth of the mineral-rich area.

He announced the aforementioned details while addressing an event in Kawardha. The function was organised in order to lay the founding stone for the 295 km-long project that is going to cost the exchequer Rs 6,000 crore, reported All India Radio News.

Through a video conference, the Railways Minister also flagged off the Korba-Raipur-Korba-Hasdeo project. He also laid the foundation stone for a railway gauge conversion project that connects Kendri in Raipur to Dhamtari and Abhanpur to Rajim. This was done in the presence of Chief Minister Raman Singh at a programme in Dhamtari. The project collectively is 67 km long.

Currently, the Kendri-Dhamtari and Abhanpur-Rajim lines have narrow gauge tracks and they will be soon converted to broad gauge at a cost of Rs 544 crore.
