Three persons were killed in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district after Naxals in the area blew up an oil tanker using an improvised explosive device (IED) on Tuesday (24 September), reports India Today.

As per the information revealed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Bastar region, Vivekanand Sinha, the diesel-laden tanker had left the Tumapal camp of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and was en route to the site of under-construction 235 km-long Dallirajhra-Rowghat-Jagdalpur railway project when at about 10 am, the tanker was attacked.

It should be noted that the Naxals from the region have been opposing the development project since its very inception and have been constantly orchestrating attacks to deter development in Bastar.

The broad-gauge project once completed would ease the rail transport in the entire region and would also facilitate the transportation of the iron ore extracted from the mineral-rich region. The passenger movement on a section of the project- up to Kevti village - has already begun.
