Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Thursday (5 September) was sent to judicial custody in the Tihar jail till 19 September by the Rouse Avenue court in connection with the INX Media scam. This judicial remand is in connection with the CBI probe being carried out against him.
Chidambaram had been arrested by the CBI in this matter 21 August and has been in the investigative agency’s remand till today (5 September).
Following his judicial remand, Chidambaram moved an application before the court seeking supply of medicines and western toilet in Tihar Jail. He has also sought a separate cell with attached bathroom and Z category security. The court has approved his plea to get adequate security.
Chidambaram’s lawyers have also moved a surrender application in connection with the ED investigation in the matter. This application for surrender would be taken up for hearing on 12 September.
Chidambaram’s lawyer Kapil Sibal has also informed the court that he has withdrawn the interim bail application in light of the judicial custody.
