Bus being pulled out of the water (Pic via Twitter)
A driver in Southwest China's Ashun city purposefully drove his bus into a reservoir killing 21 on board including himself after his house was demolished by state re-developers, New York Times has reported.
The incident which happened last week also led to a death of few students who were travelling on the bus to appear for the gaokao college entrance test.
As per the cops, the 52-year-old driver crashed the bus to send a message after his rented 430-square-foot public housing was demolished for re-development.
As per the report, this incident has brought into focus China's re-development schemes where old hoses are razed to build malls and expensive housing.
On the day of the crash, the driver had been drinking before duty and had also left messages for his girlfriend expressing disgust at the world. Ultimately around midday he sharply cut across lanes while on a bridge over Hongshan lake to break the barricade and plunge the bus underwater.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
