General secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday (7 july) resigned from his post accepting the “people’s verdict”. First Post reports.

Scindia announced his resignation on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, Mumbai Congress president Milind Deora has announced that he would be resigning from his post to play a role at the national level and stabilise the Indian National Congress, the Times of India reports.

Deora had expressed his desire to quit shortly after meeting congress leader Rahul Gandhi on 26 June in New Delhi. “The same has been conveyed to All India Congress Committee general secretaries Mallikarjun Kharge and K C Venugopal,” the statement from his office said.

Deora was appointed president of the Mumbai Congress just before the Lok Sabha polls held earlier this year, and when contacted said political realities had changed since then. “We all will have to get ready for roles that these times demand,” he said.
