The Ministry of Human Resource Development under Prakash Javadekar has brought in a 70-point grading index in a bid to assess the quality of school education offered by states, reports Business Today.

"The ministry has decided that a state performance grading will be done, wherein the states would be graded out of a 1,000 score on 70 parameters," Javadekar was quoted saying by BT.

The move will reportedly provide a correct picture of each state’s performance. The minister has also ensured that there will be fair competition to improve upon each other's performances.

The HRD ministry has also reportedly decided to print more books of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to overcome the shortage of books.

" Our target is to print six crore books this year. If parents want to send their wards to private schools, they have the right to get cheaper and quality books," Javadekar said.

"The ministry also plans to review the school curriculum, to ensure holistic education in which there will be time for physical education, value education, life skills education and experiential learning," he added.
