UP CM Yogi Adityanath
The government of Uttar Pradesh has made the decision to prohibit the open sale of meat along the designated routes for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, which is set to begin on 4 July.
In a review meeting chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath, attended by senior officials including police commissioners, divisional commissioners, district magistrates, and superintendents of police, the directive was issued, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.
Adityanath highlighted that this year, Shravan, a significant month in the Hindu calendar, will span two months due to the presence of an "Adhimas" (additional month). He further mentioned that various festivals, including Shravani Shivratri, Nagpanchami, and Rakshabandhan, will be celebrated during this extended period.
"Out of respect for the faith of devotees, the open sale of meat should be prohibited along the Kanwar route. It is imperative to keep the route clean and well-maintained, with adequate provision of streetlights. Given the hot weather, arrangements for drinking water must also be made," emphasized the CM.
As per the provided statement, Adityanath instructed officials to install CCTV cameras along the yatra route and deploy divers as well. He further mandated the pre-designation of locations for Kanwar camps to prevent traffic disruptions.
Moreover, the CM directed officials to ensure that the sound levels of DJ music and other audio systems used during the Kanwar procession adhere to the prescribed standards.
He advised granting permission to the event organizers while ensuring strict adherence to rules and regulations. Adityanath further instructed that there should be no display of weapons during religious processions.
