Uttar Pradesh (UP)'s Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath is set to kick off the 2021 polio immunisation campaign for the State today by giving the drops to several children at a hospital, reports Livemint.
In total, around 3.4 crore children of up to five years of age will be administered the polio drops today in the State while adhering to the COVID-19 norms. For the task, the State has readied 1,20,000 booths and 69,000 teams which will visit houses to give the drops.
This comes after the three day National Polio Immunisation programme was launched yesterday (30 January) by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. The national drive would go on till 2 February.
It should be noted that the programme is conducted twice every year, generally in the early months. The latest round of the programme was earlier scheduled to be rolled out on 17 January. However the same was later rescheduled to 31 January keeping in view the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination programme which was initiated on 16 January.
