Coimbatore: Busted ISIS Module Was Targeting Temples, Churches For Sri Lanka-Styled Bombings

After the National Investigation Agency (NIA) busted an ISIS module in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore, the state police’s special cell has revealed the terror group’s intention to target temples and churches in the region, Times Now has reported.

Following the NIA action, the state police raided three individuals connected with the module namely Mohammed Hussain, Shahjahan and Sheikh Safiullah.

As per an FIR filed in the matter on 12 June under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, the three accused belonging to city’s Ukkadam area, were praising the “sacrifice” of the terrorists involving in Sri Lanka’s Easter terror attacks and indoctrinating individuals using similar propaganda materials.

In the intelligence report, the state police revealed that the accused were translating ISIS propaganda from Arabic into Tamil and wanted to create an ISIS module in the state to carry out similar attacks on temples and Churches.

The preliminary police investigation also concluded that the accused were heavily radicalised and were on the verge of carrying out a terror attack. They were also said to have been indoctrinating other youths to join their module.

As reported earlier, after NIA busted the six-member ISIS module in the state, the central investigative agency had found that the prime suspect, 32-year-old Mohammed Azharudheen was also friends on Facebook with Zahran Hashim, who had masterminded the Easter bombings targeting Christian churches in Sri Lanka.
