A complaint was lodged against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday (6 February) for allegedly spreading fake news by accusing the Delhi Police personnel of setting ablaze a DTC bus during violence near the Jamia Millia Islamia in December last year.

The criminal complaint was filed before a special MP/MLA Magistrate court seeking registration of FIR against Sisodia.

The complaint, filed by Supreme Court advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava, will come up for hearing tomorrow.

Earlier, Sisodia in a tweet alleged that it was the Delhi police which was involved in burning buses, as part of BJP’s dirty politics.

Sisodia alleged that, “Look at this photo, look who is setting the bus on fire. This is the biggest proof of BJP’s dirty politics, will its leaders answer”.

While this narrative was being peddled, various journalists busted the rumours by pointing out that the said videos and pictures doing the round were of the cops desperately trying to douse the fire by pouring water, before the entire vehicle caught fire.

Another journalist posted a video which clearly showed that the cops were pouring water on the bus seats in an attempt to douse stray fires.

The conspiracy theory was dealth a death blow as the bus which was purportedly burnt by Delhi police was seen standing safe and sound in the bus depot.
