Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday (12 May) stoked a controversy when he asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi would hang himself if his prediction of Rahul Gandhi-led party getting 40 seats in general elections is proven wrong, reports Hindustan Times.

While addressing a rally in support of Congress candidate Subash Rathod for Assembly bypoll from Chincholi seat in Karnataka, Kharge said, “It is you the people sitting here who are going to write the future and fate of this country, it is in your hands to write the fate of Subash and ours, not it their (BJP/Modi) hands,”

Responding to Kharge’s statement, senior BJP leader and MP Shobha Karandlaje said that she never expected such low remarks from a senior politician like him and has demanded an apology from the senior Congress leader.

“Blatant lies, fake allegations, derogatory remarks have become common with hollow Congress, nothing progressive! He should apologise!” Karandlaje tweeted.
