Congress leader Dr Udit Raj on Tuesday (10 November) alleged EVM hacking as his party stares at a heavy defeat in the Bihar Assembly Polls and the assembly bypolls.

Raj tweeted that, "if it is possible to control space probes sent to Mars and Moon from the Earth, then why cannot the EVMs be hacked?"

In another tweet, Raj questioned whether it was possible for Trump to lose if the US had conducted the 2020 Presidential Elections via EVMs.

It should be noted that the EVM hacking conspiracy theory has been time after time by the Election Commission which at one point of time even threw a challenge to the political parties to try and hack the voting device. The parties like Congress and BSP ultimately backed out.

Unlike what is alleged by Raj, the Indian EVMs are standalone devices and do not contain any frequency receiver and wireless decoder. In the event of someone breaching the device and externally installing any bluetooth or wireless receiver, the device shuts down.

Raj's allegations come at a time when his party stares a heavy defeat both in Bihar and the assembly by-polls. The party is leading on 21 out of 70 seats in Bihar and is facing a rout in states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

Raj who had jumped ship from the BJP in 2019 after being denied a Lok Sabha ticket had recently opposed the UP government's spending on 2019 Kumbh Mela by calling it "wrong".
