Congress MLA Files PIL Against Land Allotted To IKEA In Hyderabad, Two Days Before The Store’s Inauguration

IKEA’s Hyderabad store, which is all set to open on Thursday (9 August), has landed into trouble following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Congress MLA Revanth Reddy, Hans India has reported.
As per the report, the Congress MLA from Kodangal has petitioned against the Telangana government’s decision to allot 16.27 acres of land in Raidurg village which falls under Ranga Reddy district.
Reddy in the PIL filed on Tuesday alleged that the Telangana government allotting this valuable land led to the loss of Rs 500 crore. The PIL claims that the government received only Rs 33 crore for this land sale, New Indian Express reports.
He also alleged that the government broke the law and asserted that the land could have been allotted to IKEA at any other location. He thus requested the court to intervene in the matter and declare the allotment as illegal.
The Hans India report claims that if this matter results in litigation, the launch event of IKEA Hyderabad might get postponed.
As reported by Business Standard, IKEA’s first Indian store boasts of a 4 lakh square feet showroom which is expected to cater to 60 lakh shoppers per year. In all, the store will offer about 7,500 produced out of which a 1,000 are priced below Rs 200.
