Commotion took over the venue of Congress President Rahul Gandhi's election rally at Chanchal of Malda district in West Bengal yesterday (23 March 2019), reports Indian Express.

Unbridled party supporters arriving from nearby districts broke the VIP enclosure and barged in, hurling chairs and grousing against Congress state leadership over improper arrangements and planning to accommodate the supporters at the venue.

The Congress leaders and police personnel posted at the spot tried to control and mollify the crowd, but their pleas went unheard as the crowds started to throw chairs at VIP sitting zone in front of the stage, which was designated and reserved for Congress’s top brass, senior party leaders and MLAs.

Gandhi was not present at the venue when the incident took place. He was to reach at the rally ground at Chanchal from Purnia, Bihar at 3 pm.

Later, addressing the rally at Chanchal, Gandhi officially kicked off party's Lok Sabha poll campaign in West Bengal with an attack on incumbent West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee by saying,"Bengal is being run by one person".
