Conrad Sangma Sworn In As The Chief Minister Of Meghalaya

Conrad Sangma, Chief of the National People's Party (NPP) which got 19 seats in the assembly elections, has been sworn in as the 12th chief minister of Meghalaya.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and BJP national spokesperson Nalin Kohli.
Conrad Sangma, the youngest son of former Lok Sabha speaker P A Sangma, took over the reins of the NPP in 2016. He now heads a five-part collision, which has 34 MLAs - 19 of the NPP, six of the United Democratic Party (UDP), four of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), two each of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and the BJP and an Independent.
Congress, which was at the helm in the state for ten years and emerged as the single largest party in the assembly elections, could not get support from other parties in time. Congress President Rahul Gandhi was in Italy when the party was struggling to muster support from independents and other parties in the state.
The party had offered to make Donkupar Roy, the Chief of UDP, Chief Minister for two-and-a-half years. He, however, rejected the offer and extended support to the alliance cobbled together by the BJP.
