Amid the fear of emerging new cases of the Novel Coronavirus in India, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi has decided not to participate in any events on Holi next week.

The PM took to Twitter and cited medical experts’ advice to reduce mass gatherings to avoid the spread of the deadly CoVid-19.

“Experts across the world have advised to reduce mass gatherings to avoid the spread of COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Hence, this year I have decided not to participate in any Holi Milan programme,” he wrote.

The move is expected to encourage people to follow the suit and take preventive measures to reduce the spread of the disease that has killed over 3,000 people across the world, with majority coming from China where the outbreak began earlier this year.

Earlier on Monday, one man from Delhi and another from Hyderabad had tested positive for the virus. Both have been quarantined and are receiving required treatment.

As of now, about 438 people across the country have bee suspected to have come contact with some infected person. 225 of them have finished their 280day isolation, while 189 are still under observation.
