Adding muscle to nation's efforts to contain the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Indian Railways has manufactured a prototype of an isolation ward by converting non-air-conditioned train coach, reports Times of India.

Over the next few days, the Railways shall finalise the best practices following which each zone of the Railways shall manufacture a rake with 10 coaches every single week. These shall enhance the capacity of the nation to cure the patients of COVID-19.

The spokesperson of the Northern Railways Deepak Kumar asserted that once manufacturing of these converted isolation wards begins, these shall be used to serve the hinterlands or whichever region would need the coaches for treating the patients.

Under the exercise to convert the coaches into isolation wards, the Indian railways has removed the middle berth, all 3 berths removed in front of patient berth. Additionally, all ladders for climbing up the berths have been removed and the bathrooms, aisle areas and other areas have also been modified to prepare Isolation Coach, reports ANI.

These coaches have also been equipped with 220-volt electrical points in each compartment for medical instruments.
