Coronavirus: Mamata Urges People To Avoid Crowded Places While Addressing Packed Crowd At Indoor Stadium

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while addressing a government program on Friday (13 March) urged people to avoid crowded places to safeguard themselves from a coronavirus infection, Deccan Herald has reported.
Incidentally, many soon pointed out the irony in Banerjee’s statement - which she made while addressing a virtually packed crowd at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata with a capacity of 12,000.
Banerjee during her speech defended the decision not to cancel the program as it was planned months in advance, “The program was planned months before the coronavirus outbreak and hence it could not be cancelled. But we will cut short its duration”.
Banerjee during the even also urged people to maintain a social distance of 5 metres and regularly wash hands. She additionally requested people not to panic if they suffer from cough and cold and asked them to consult a doctor if high fever persists.
With no positive cases reported, West Bengal has so far managed to isolate itself from the coronavirus pandemic.
