Around 150 members of the Saudi royal family have contracted the coronavirus including senior Prince and Riyadh Governor Faisal bin Bandar Al Saud who has been admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU), New York Times has reported.
Doctors at the upscale King Faisal Specialist Hospital which treats the royal family members are now preparing 500 beds in anticipation of more Covid-19 patients among the nation’s ruling class and elites.
Any sick staff members at the hospital will be treated at other institutions so that ample capacity remains for the royal family.
Up to 150 Saudi royals are currently said to be infected by Covid-19. As per doctors, many princes are frequent travellers to Europe and are believed to have brought back the virus to their country, thereby emerging as infection vectors.
Key members of the family like King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman have retreated to exclusive quarters near Jeddah along the Red Sea.
