As the nation grapples to contain the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) in Ropar and Roorkee have quarantined as many as 40 students and faculty members, reports Economic Times.
The ones who have been quarantined by the two institutes ave been said to have had a history of travel to COVID-19 hit nations. It should be noted that the quarantined individuals have not shown positive signs of COVID-19, but have been quarantined as a precautionary measure as per the directives of the Government so as to avert the possible spread of the virus.
Also, for some of the quarantined students, the two week long period of isolation is set to end this week.
Meanwhile, even as IIT Roorkee has not shut down its campus, it has extended the mid-semester break of the institute by a week. The break was supposed to start on 7 March and end on 15 March. As per the institute's director Professor Ajit K Chaturvedi, the authorities are also working to decide on holding online classes for the students.
