A Covid-19 positive anglo-Indian woman who landed in Delhi on 21 December escaped from the quarantine centre and was finally tracked on board a train to Rajahmundry, Deccan Chronicle has reported.

The report claims that the woman underwent a RT-PCR test at the Delhi Airport where she allegedly tested positive for the mutated strain of the Coronavirus which is said to 70 per cent more infectious.

However, it should be noted that top health policy maker and NITI Aayog member Dr V K Paul has said that the new strain or mutation of Coronavirus seen in the UK has not yet been seen in India.

The PIB had yesterday (23 December) busted a news report which had claimed that 15 UK passengers had tested positive for the new mutation.

"Establishment of Genome sequence to identify presence of mutant virus is yet to be done by a designated lab of ICMR, DBT, CSIR and NCDC", PIB had said.

The report goes on to claim that the woman after testing positive for Covid-19 was taken to a quarantine centre, from where she escaped.

The health authorities as a result sounded an alert and tracked her down on a train from Delhi bound to Rajahmundy - where she resides. She was reportedly travelling in a first class class coach along with her son.

She will now be be kept in an isolation ward at a local government hospital.
