The Games Organising Committee of the soon-to-begin Tokyo Olympics has announced that three athletes have tested positive for COVID-19, reports The Economic Times.
The development gained much significance as two of the three athletes were also staying at the Olympic Village. The third athlete is staying at a designated games hotel. The organisers have not yet revealed the identities of those who have tested positive.
The organisers also shared that 10 cases have been detected on the day, of whom are "Games concerned personnel", one is a contractor, and one is a journalist. With this, the total count of Games-rated COVID-19 cases has now risen to 55 as per the official records.
It should be noted that since 1 July, more than 18,000 games participants are said to have already arrived from overseas, all of whom had had at least two negative tests before arrival. Upon arrival, participants went through another test.
The first batch of Indian participants has also arrived for the games today. They left for Japan yesterday (17 July).
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
