Covid-19 Update: Bengaluru In For Total Lockdown Again, Beginning Tuesday Night

  • Tough days are in store for Bengalureans as the Karnataka government has decided to impose total lockdown in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts on account of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the city. The lockdown will take effect from 8 pm on Tuesday (14 July) till 21 July, 2020. While the government had been keen thus far on restarting the economy, lifting curbs on movements appears to have been counterproductive as people are seen moving about normally, and many of them without safety precautions such as social distancing and masks.
  • The move has come as a desperate measure, despite senior officials and even the State Home Minister categorically stating that a lockdown was not in the offing.
  • Even the Chief Minister, B S Yediyurappa, has not been spared of the impact of Covid-19, as some of his staff tested positive yesterday, owing to which he is in self-imposed quarantine, and is ‘working from home’.
  • His tweets announcing the decision to impose lockdown again are below.
