Binoy Kodiyeri, son of the Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPI-M) Kerala state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has been accused of cheating a Dubai-based travel agency of Rs 13 crore, reports Manorama News.

Hasan Ismaeel Abdulla Almarzooqi, owner of Dubai-based JAAS Tourism LLC has sought the help of Indian authorities in extraditing Binoy from India to Dubai alleging that he has cheated him for an amount of Rs. 7.87 crores, which goes upto Rs. 13 crore including bank interests and legal charges.

The complainant has alleged that Binoy had fled Dubai after borrowing the money from company’s account holding bank on the pretext of purchasing an Audi car and for investing in businesses in India, Nepal, UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Notably, Kodiyeri had caused a stir when he drove upto a political rally in another luxury car in October last year.

The loan for the business investment was supposed to be repaid by 1 June, 2016 and the company had discussed the matter through intermediaries with Kodiyeri, who assured them of repaying the entire amount. However, the company didn’t receive any money despite the CPI-M leader’s assurance.

Almarzooqi had filed with a complaint with the Dubai police about the same, who have proclaimed Binoy as a wilful defaulter in the UAE. The company claims that Binoy has five other criminal cases against him in Dubai and that he had availed the loans with malicious intent.

The Dubai Public Prosecutor is said to have instructed the Dubai police to seek Interpol’s help to trace the accused, despite Kodiyeri claiming that as of now there was no complaint against his son. “He has made it clear that there is no case against him. Therefore, there is no need to involve the Interpol,” he said.

Opposition BJP State President Kummanam Rajasekharan has demanded an Enforcement Directorate probe into the issue. Congress has also demanded strict action in the case.

Kodiyeri was also under fire recently when he had praised North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un for his ‘anti-US stand’.
