Cutting Down On The Fat, Literally: Jet Airways To Stop Free Meals Abroad Its Flights Beginning 7 January

Jet Airways plans to cut complimentary meal offerings for passengers travelling in domestic economy class from January 2019. The move comes as a part of the cash-strapped carrier’s plans to reduce expenses and increase revenues, as reported by The New Indian Express.
In a statement, the carrier said that the passengers have to buy meals on board. “The move reflects the fast-evolving nature of Indian aviation, where an increasing number of guests want the freedom and flexibility to make their own travel choices,” said Jet Airways.
The new fare changes will be effective on bookings made after 21 December for flights beginning 7 January 2019.
In addition to the light, deal and flex categories, Jet Airways added two more types under economy travel-saver and classic. In the new fare revision, economy passengers who have booked only on flex category will be able to avail complimentary meals.
The new saver and classic category passengers can avail complimentary meals for Jet Privilege Gold and Platinum members.
