Cyclone Mocha Intensifies Into Very Severe Cyclonic Storm; NDRF And Coast Guard On Alert

Cyclone Mocha has become a very severe cyclonic storm over the southeast and central parts of the Bay of Bengal.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has stationed teams of rescuers to deal with any emergency.
The Coast Guard has also asked its units to be on high alert.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that it would turn into a severe cyclone on Sunday (14 May) and make landfall along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border with wind speeds of 150-160 kilometres per hour.
It is expected to cause storm surges of 1.5-2 metres in the coastal areas near Cox's Bazaar in Bangladesh.
Fishermen have been asked not to enter the affected regions.
In India, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Northeastern states like Mizoram and Tripura are expected to receive heavy rainfall. Manipur, Nagaland and southern Assam are expected to receive some rainfall but in isolated places.
The name 'Mocha' has been suggested by Yemen. Mocha is a port on the Red Sea coast. It used to be an important centre for the coffee trade.
