Dawood Ibrahim
An associate of wanted criminal Dawood Ibrahim, Mohammed Farooq, also known as Farooq Takla has been extradited from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates yesterday (7 March) and will be produced in a Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (TADA) Court in Mumbai today (8 March). Takla is an accused in the 1993 blasts in Mumbai that killed over 250 people and left over 700 dead.
Takla is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Intelligence (CBI). He is being charged with criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder, and voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons among other charges, according to an Interpol notice.
27 other accused in the blasts, including Ibrahim Kaskar and Tiger Menon continue to evade arrest and are hiding abroad. Last September, a TADA court had sentence two of the convicts to death and several others including Abu Salem to a life sentence.
A Red Corner notice was issued against Takla in 1995. The Red Corner notice seeks a criminals extradition to the jurisdiction where the notice was issued.
