The efforts of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to push an electrification initiative in the epicentre of Maoist activities have brought hope, electricity and light to two villages in Jharkhand.

CRPF's initiative has helped people in Maoist-affected villages of Karamdih and Khamikhas, which lie on the outskirts of the camp.

ANI reports that Inspector General CRPF Jharkhand, Sanjay Lathkar, visited the CRPF camp in Latehar district earlier this month. He was “astonished to see the people of nearby villages deprived of any electricity”.

Lathkar told ANI, “During my visit to the Karamdih camp I saw we are highly illuminated, and the villagers are living in darkness. We decided that with the help of our generators, we will start with electrification in 200 meters. As of now, we have provided electricity to 50 villagers from our limited resources. Now the boys can study during the night, the village women can cook during night hours. The daily household chores which were ceased post-sunset remains alive now with buzzing activity. It has become a boon especially for infants, ladies, and students”.

Lathkar has also said that power supply from the CRPF camp will be extended, if possible, to more families.

In a video, Aaj Tak reports that people in these villages would spend nights in the moonlight in absence of electricity.

The report adds that troops of 112 Battalion CRPF were shifted to Karamdih in Latehar district “to regain control over this tactical stronghold of Maoists”, earlier this year.
