A 17-year-old girl identified as Neetu was brutally beaten to death in Delhi's Rohini on Friday (19 February) allegedly by an accused identified by 25-year-old Laik Khan after she refused his marriage proposal, Times of India has reported.

As per the report, Neetu's cousin Kaushal went to her home in Begumpur at 5 PM on Friday and saw that Khan had come to her house. He went to the terrace for the next hour and at around 6 PM, Laik gave him money to go and bring chicken.

At around 7.45 PM, Kaushal found Khan bloodstained and holding a hammer as he hurriedly locked Neetu's house. Kaushal tried to stop him but failed.

The family soon broke open the door and found Neetu lying in a pool of blood, she was rushed to a hospital where she was declared dead by doctors.

Kaushal alleges that for the past two-three months Khan had been pressurising Neetu to marry him but she had declined his proposals. He claims that Khan was known to the family and had also once stayed with them. Neetu had also told her mother about Khan's proposal and her subsequent refusal.

"The girl’s family earlier used to stay in Bawana where the accused was their neighbour. The families of both were known to each other. Laik Khan used to visit the girl’s home often and had even stayed at her house for around a month. The accused killed the girl, who was studying in Class XI, after she refused to marry him", DCP (Rohini) P K Mishra has been quoted as saying.

"Neetu had told me he harassed her and had threatened to kill her. I was out on some work when he came to the house and sent Kaushal to get food", Neetu's mother Rani Devi has said.

The Delhi Police formed six teams to nab Khan, who is currently absconding.
