Delhi: 50 AAP MLAs Refuse To Declare Assets To Lokayukta, Demand Penalty And Jail Sentence For Petitioner

Fifty Delhi MLAs belonging to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have declined to share their asset details with the Lokayukta, Times of India has reported. They have contested the order claiming that the Lokayukta lacks jurisdiction in the matter.
Leader of the opposition Vijender Gupta, BJP MLA, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and AAP rebel MLA Kapil Mishra, meanwhile, have already submitted their property details to the Lokayukta, Reva Khetarpal, says the report.
The report goes on to state that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also haven’t filed their details yet.
A complaint seeking asset details of legislators had been filed by advocate Vivek Garg. The dissenting MLAs stated that the complaint “is devoid of any merit and the same be dismissed with exemplary cost.”
They said that under section 9(2) of the Lokayukta Act, 1995, the petitioner should be penalised and sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment for false and baseless complaints.
“The notice by the lokayukta to MLAs is malafide as it is guided by her tiff with Delhi government. She has misused her office and powers and we are protesting that misuse. All of us will again file the affidavits in 2020 elections detailing ours and our family assets and liabilities,” AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj was quoted in the report as saying.
