Delhi's Health Minister Satyendar Jain revealed that out of the total 1,154 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the national capital, 746 have emerged out of the Tablighi Jamaat situated in Delhi's Nizamuddin area, reports Asian News International (ANI).

The Jamaat had held an international religious congregation at its headquarter in Nizamuddin which had witnessed its members visiting India from different parts of the world, including COVID-19-hit Malaysia and Indonesia which had led to a major outburst of cases amongst the persons who had attended the congregation and thereafter spread into different parts of the nation.

Meanwhile, Jain also shared that of the total, 1,102 patients are presently hospitalised in Delhi, of which 50 are in the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) while six are on ventilator support. Delhi has declared as many as 43 areas as containment zones as positive cases continue to surge.

Given the heightened situation, Delhi's Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal has also suggested to the Prime Minister (PM) to extend the nationwide lockdown which otherwise is supposed to end tomorrow (14 April).
