Delhi is all set to embrace solar technology in a big way. The city is expected to have in excess of 2,000 solar connections by the end of 2018, a report in Financial Express has said. Power firm BSES, in a report, said that 1,077 rooftop solar connections with a sanctioned load over 40MW have already been energised till date.

BSES has managed to register over 1,000 consumers such as the Lotus Temple and Maulana Azad Medical College for this scheme. Most of the connections registered by BSES are under the consumer category, followed by commercial and then educational ones. The educational institutions that have signed up for their services include Vasant Valley, Delhi Public School (East Kailash), Bal Bharti, Aurobindo Ashram and organisations such as The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).

As part of the scheme, power, which is in excess of what is individually consumed, can be sold to the discom. According to the discom, consumers enjoy a Generation-Based Incentive, where Rs 2 will be given per unit of power generated.
