The first phase of the ambitious Rail Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is expected to be operational in three years with the 17-km stretch connecting Duhai-Shahibabad section in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad to open for public by early 2023, reports Metro Rail News.

The Duhai-Shahibabad stretch is undergoing civil construction works under priority. The section comprises four stations at Duhai, Guldhar, Ghaziabad and Shahibabad.

The nodal agency of the RRTS- National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) said that the 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor will be operational by 2025. This shall cut down the travel time between Delhi and Meerut from three-four hours by road to under 55 minutes.

The Ghaziabad RRTS station will be connected to Delhi Metro’s Ghaziabad New Bus Adda station. On the other side, the Shahibabad station will be integrated with the upcoming Vasundhara Sector 2 metro station and bus terminal.

The RRTS trains will run at an average speed of 100 kmph and an operational speed of 160 kmph, three times that of Delhi Metro. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid down the foundation stone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor in March 2019.
