The family of Intelligence Bureau (IB) official Ankit Sharma, who was killed during the Delhi riots last week, will be given a compensation of Rs 1 crore, the Delhi government declared on Monday (2 March).

Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal-led government also announced that one of his family members will also be given a job to help the family, Hindustan Times reported.

“Ankit Sharma was a brave IB officer. He was brutally murdered in the riots. The country is proud of him. The Delhi government has decided that his family will be given a compensation of Rs 1 crore and job to one of his family members. May his soul rest in peace,” CM Kejriwal tweeted.

A security assistant in the IB since 2017, Sharma was found dead in the violence-hit Chand Bagh locality where he resided.

His body was fished out on Wednesday (26 February).

“Tahir Hussain the AAP councilor is behind the murder of my brother. Anti CAA protestors took my brother and three others to the building which belongs to Tahir Hussain”, Ankit’s brother was quoted as saying.\

Later, a case has been filed against Hussain under sections 365 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which pertain to kidnapping and murder, following a complaint by Ankit’s father, Devendra Sharma.

His father said his son returned home around 5.30pm on Tuesday and soon after left to assess the situation outside.

However, when he did not return home for hours, the family members started looking for him. "We also went to the GTB and Lok Nayak hospitals to check whether he was admitted, but could not find him," his father said.

They kept kept searching him till 3am on Wednesday. “Later around 10am, we got information that his body was lying inside the Chand Bagh drain. We never thought that he will be killed,” he said.
