Delhi Kids To Go To School Sooner: Directorate of Education Advances Nursery Admissions In National Capital

Reports claim that nursery admissions’ registration process is likely to begin earlier this year in Delhi. An officer of the Directorate of Education (DoE) said guidelines for admissions in Delhi’s 1,700 private schools are likely to be issued this week.
“The notification for the guidelines and the schedule will be released in the next 2-3 days. The registration process will begin by December 15-16,” quoted the DoE Director Sanjay Goel. The rules for the process shall remain the same, and the school will decide on the criteria. The admission process, however, will require the schools to have an upper age limit, which was hitherto not binding, as reported by Times Of India.
The Nursery admissions are made on a point-based system. Children are evaluated out of 100 points and schools are allowed to follow their unique criteria to allot points for admission, but are forbidden to use criteria termed “discriminatory” by the government, which was upheld in the Delhi High Court. The criteria includes first-born, special grounds (parents with proficiency), the status of child etc.
The admissions’ registration process started on 27 December last year and is expected to begin on 15-16 December this year.
