Delhi metro’s Ashram station which is a part of the newly inaugurated 9.7 km Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 segment of Pink Line is set to make a world record of being the smallest such facility on the planet. The length of Ashram metro station is just 151.6 meters against a normal of 265 meters, reports Metro Rail News.

The new underground station of national capital’s metro is build to welcome commuters with work of art on the theme of ‘mother and child’. The color scheme used in the station draws out a theme of 'abundance'.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had to go through various land acquisition battles to build the station which resulted in a design that required a space of 151.6 meters only against the average of 265 meters.

Designers came up with a new design instead of waiting for two years to acquire a private land and delaying the line, a senior metro official was cited in the report as saying. He added that since the land prices are soaring, the space saving design is a boon for the government.

According to the report, Prior to the construction of Ashram station, Bhikaji Cama Place, with a length of 225.5 m, was the smallest station in Delhi Metro’s network.
