Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) is set for a major aviation boost as the Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad is likely to begin commercial flight operations from October this year, reports Financial Express.

A senior Airports Authority of India (AAI) official said that the the commercial flight operations at the Hindon airport are likely to begin from early October as the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has given its nod to the project.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8 had inaugurated the new civil enclave at Hindon airport from where commercial flights would be operated. The newly-inaugurated civil airport will benefit passengers from Noida, East Delhi, Faridabad and Ghaziabad.

The flyers from the airport will be able to fly to Tier-2 and Tier-3 destinations at affordable fares under the government's UDAN scheme, also known as Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). Under UDAN, the fares for the flights are capped at a maximum of Rs 2,500 for an hour of journey.
