Rioters in Delhi (Pic via Twitter)
The Rapid Action Force (RAF) has begun flag marches in parts of Northeast Delhi’s violence stricken areas as death toll rises to nine.
As per reports, Delhi police and the RAF have started a flag march in the Khajuri Khaas area of the national capital region. Large scale violence and arson was reported from the area yesterday (24 February). Section 144 has also been imposed in the region.
Fresh violence has been reported from parts of the city and GTB hospital informed that the death toll has risen to nine after four were brought dead today. At least 135 injured have been admitted to hospitals and are undergoing treatment.
Stone pelting was reported from Delhi’s Bhajanpura and violence has also gripped Delhi’s Gamri, where shops have been burnt down by rioters.
The Delhi police has claimed that shortage of personnel led to the escalation violence as the cops failed to immediately bring the situation under control. A total of 35 companies of para-military forces have been assigned to the Delhi police. Around 1,000 Delhi police personnel will be deployed to the violence stricken areas.
