A 30-year-old woman has been accused of killing her husband with the help of her lover and then attempting to pass off the murder as a Covid-19 death, Times of India has reported.

The incident has been reported from Ashok Vihar in Northwest Delhi.

As per the report, the victim - a 46-year-old Sharat Dass was a shopkeeper in the area. His wife Anita on 2 May told her neighbours that her husband had died from a possible Covid-19 infection.

The neighbours then informed the cops about the Covid-19 fatality in the area. After the cops arrived the wife was unable to furnish any documents to prove the illness. The neighbours also told the cops that the victim was in good health prior to his death.

The body was then sent for postmortem. A couple of days later the doctor gave his report that the death had been caused by asphyxia due to ante mortem smothering.

The cops then questioned the wife who reportedly broke down and confessed to the crime. She said that she was in love with another man and killed the husband to get rid of him.

The wife said that on 1 May she called her lover after the husband slept and the two smothered him to death. They also planned to cremate the body but it was stopped by the cops in a timely manner.
