In what many view as an open challenge to Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s authority, the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee has announced that it would conduct a large protest demonstration against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), reports The Hindu.
Gandhi had earlier on Sunday (3 February) proclaimed his support for the TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee.
“I spoke with Mamatadi tonight [Sunday] and told her we stand shoulder to shoulder with her... The entire opposition will stand together & defeat these fascist forces,” Gandhi had tweeted.
A statement released by the Pradesh Congress Committee has taken a very different line on the whole issue, revealing plans for a massive demonstration opposing Banerjee.
Banerjee is currently at loggerheads with the centre after CBI officials investigating TMC leaders and the Kolkata Police Commissioner had to face off against a belligerent state police. The West Bengal chief minister has now gone on a dharna in what she claims is a protest to save democracy.

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
