DGCA Directs IndiGo, GoAir To Replace Parts Of Airbus A320 Neo’s Pratt & Whitney Engine To Eliminate Snags

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the aviation regulator for India has asked low-cost carriers IndiGo and GoAir to sort out engine problems that affect as many as 15 Pratt & Whitney (P&W) powered Airbus A320 Neo aircraft following a directive by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The directive which arrived on 7 November, stated to replace the high-pressure compressor (HPC) and in another directive, it was stated that the FAA requires replacement of certain parts of P&W 1100 engines from serial number 450 to 614 installed on A320Neo aircraft. “This is to address the issue of failure of knife edge seal. Both Indigo and GoAir are compliant on same” a senior DGCA official said as reported by Livemint.
A spokesperson for P&W said “Pratt & Whitney is complying with the directives and working closely with our customers to ensure the process is completed within the required timeline”.
According to sources, a spokesperson from GoAir failed to revert back after promising to check and do so. The same situation was faced with Indigo spokesperson as they were not available for comment.
