In an instance, purportedly bringing to the fore the simmering dissent in Maharashtra unit of Congress, an audio clip of an believed to be a telephonic conversation between state Congress chief and Member of Parliament Ashok Chavan and a party worker has leaked, in which Chavan can be heard saying that he is in the “frame of mind to resign”, reports Hindustan Times.

According to the report, the authenticity of the tape, which is in the possession of HT, could not be independently verified.

The party worker in the audio clip reportedly identified himself as Rajurkar, and complained about former district president Vinayak Bangade’s selection as candidate from Chandrapur constituency in Vidarbha. Rajurkar reportedly said that Chandrapur could be a “sure seat” if sitting Shiv Sena legislator Balu Dhanorkar would have been given ticket. Dhanorkar reportedly announced that he would be leaving his party.

As per the report, Chavan can be heard telling Rajurkar, “I am with you on this. But, nobody is listening to me here. You speak to Wasnik [Congress leader Mukul Wasnik]. I am also in a frame of mind to resign.” Chavan was planning to give Dhanorkar the ticket to put up a tough fight for sitting BJP MP and Union minister Hansraj Ahir.

However, Chavan reportedly tried to downplay the audio clip leak and said, “I have not heard the audio tape. But, I have no hesitation in admitting that there is some discontent among leaders over Chandrapur. It is my duty to resolve the issues.”

Later, Chavan, it was reported, will contest the Lok Sabha polls from Nanded seat.
