Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi addressing the media in London (Pic via Twitter)
Close on the heels of his address on Kashmir inside the British Parliament, activists from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Tuesday (5 February) gathered outside the hotel where Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi is staying to protest against Pakistani misrule in the occupied territory, reports ANI.
At the controversial conference, Qureshi tacitly accused India of “human rights violations” in Jammu & Kashmir and had openly supported separatism in the Indian state. The conference promoting secession was organised with the help of Pakistani- origin British Parliamentarians, reported India Today.
India had taken strong exception to the conference and had lodged a protest with the British government.
Although the conference was supposedly ‘open to all’, Indian media persons were not allowed entry into the event.
Support exists in PoK for the region to become independent from Pakistan due to allegations of misrule and oppression.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
